Casuals grab two victories

Last weekend was good for Icklesham Casuals with both 1st and 2nd teams recording victories.

The 1st team returned to winning ways with a 2-1 success away to Eastbourne Athletic with the match being played on an extremely narrow pitch. Icklesham went 1-0 up early on with a splendid finish from Steffan Davies after a well worked cross from the right, but then dropped the pace for 10 minutes and paid the price when Eastbourne Athletic managed to get the ball over the line after a scrappy few seconds.

The Casuals bounced back when Davies fed Phil Badrock with a beautiful through ball and he beat three players in front of goal before netting what proved to be the winner. The second period was fairly comfortable with a number of chances missed to increase the lead.

The 2nd team recorded their first win of the season with a 5-3 home victory over Hampden Park United in an open game in which both sides created chances. A run and cross by Joe Fraser after 20 minutes ended with a visiting defender putting through his own net to open the scoring.

The young Icklesham side were playing their best football of the season with a number of flowing moves started by new midfield pairing of Dan Rumsey and Sam Garner, and they surged into a 4-0 lead with a low shot from Mason Maddox and two exquisite lobs from Joe Fraser.

A late Hampden Park fightback threatened a draw, but Lee Pierce nodded in from a free-kick to secure the points and take Icklesham up to 5th place in Division Five of the East Sussex League.
