Blues by a local legend in a wonderful venue

Brilliant musicians, great venue
Kino-Teatr, St Leonards

Saturday, January 6 turned out to be another special music experience at the Kino-Teatr in Norman Street, St Leonards - a venue I would recommend visiting. Local Rye legend Roger Hubbard and friends were playing. First we  went to the pleasant restaurant and had one of the tasty starters. For those interested in art, there is usually a Russian exhibition to enjoy and then either a film, music or a show in their amazing auditorium with its beautiful dome. And drinks can be taken in to relax with in the most comfortable seats.

The audience this night was eclectic and expectant and we were not disappointed, as Roger performed initially on his own with his bluesy voice, extraordinary guitar playing and slide riffs (Rye Cooder, American slide guitarist, came to mind). He was later joined by Richard Studholme who plays, like Roger, multiple guitars and accordion.

There was a slight irritation, having on the big screen behind the band a repetitive black and white French silent film, similar to the Charlie Chaplin silent movies. It was very distracting though the two illusionists half way through were rather fascinating. Taken all round though, it was a great night .

Do go onto the venue's website to find out the many varied entertainments on offer, including 2 for 1 screenings on weekdays at 2pm.
