Last Saturday, July 29 saw 20 teams playing at Rye Bowls Club, in the open mixed triples 2023 tournament.

Rye members welcomed the following visiting clubs and teams:

Iden, Hunton, Guestling, ‘Mix & Match’, Gullivers 1, Ninfield, Gildredge Park Friends, Sidley Martletts, Ditton, Staplecross, Pett 1, Winchelsea 1, White Rock, Pett 2, Sellindge, ‘Unattached’, Hollington Old Church, Gullivers 2 and Winchelsea 2.

The weather was forecast to be a little ’suspect’, but after a cloudy start things steadily improved, and the day ended in glorious sunshine. Play started at 9:30am and continued throughout the day, providing a very English spectacle for spectators up on the Lookout and around the green.

Rye’s reputation for providing a well run tournament was upheld, with visiting teams enjoying a fun competition, and an equally great lunch, and refreshments throughout the day, provided by members of the Rye club (thank you, ladies!).

At the end of a hotly contested tournament, the winners were as follows:

1st place - White Rock (Terry Baker, Adie Pantrey, Lorraine Milburn)
2nd place - Sidley Martletts (Marion Bland, Linda Ilsley, Neil Forshaw)
3rd place - Winchelsea 1 (Chris Waters, Jo Melvin, Mike Melvin)

Rye Bowls Club want to thank their sponsors, the Mermaid Inn, and especially Judith Blincow, the club's president, who presented the shield and prizes.
