Bonfire auction a huge success

Over £10,000 raised helps Rye Bonfire make November 9 spectacular

Wednesday July 3 saw Rye Bonfire Society hold its annual auction of promises at The Mermaid Inn. This year’s event was, as always, well attended and as lively as usual.

Last year's total was smashed! The final total for this year was in excess of £10,000, which will go quite some way towards ensuring the Rye Fawkes torchlight procession and spectacular firework display will go ahead on November 9.

Rye Bonfire Society would like to pass on their heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated an item or service, who attended, and who bid on the amazing lots that went under the hammer.

A member from the bonfire society commented: "In general, the town and the local businesses are very supportive, and we would not be able to provide this free community event for the town without their help. Our fundraising team work extremely hard all year round and we cannot thank everyone enough for making the auction of promises such a success.

"Thank you again for helping to keep Rye bonfire burning."

Details of future fundraising events will be advertised on the bonfire society's Facebook page and on their Instagram account.
