Residents of Winchelsea woke up on Saturday to discover a trail of vandalism and blood through the town. At about 4am four youths went through the town from the direction of Icklesham breaking a window and damaging the wing mirrors of eight vehicles parked along the High Street.

But what shocked residents most was that the damaged wing mirrors were liberally splattered with someone's blood. Whoever it was seems to have been hitting the mirrors with their damaged hand. And at the end of the High Street, the bloody imprint of a hand and a long smear of blood were found on the wall of a house.

Police have taken samples of the blood and will be checking  DNA records to try to identify the bloody vandal. They are appealing for information about anyone who appears to have injured their hand between Friday and Saturday.
