The New Beach Club at Pett Level hosted the 66th annual Harvest Home on Saturday September 30. The Harvest Home charity auction is an annual event in aid of Rye Harbour and Hastings RNLI lifeboats.
The Harvest Home was first held in 1952 and the organisers still keep the tradition of collecting donations from the local area to be sold at auction. The collectors and auctioneers are all volunteers, including the crew of Pett Level independent lifeboat and members of the Coastguard.
A long line of entertaining auctioneers included Ian Burford, from the Rye ukulele-based band Hall and Blokes, and Rye Harbour lifeboat crew volunteer Joe Brown.
Volunteers from Rye Harbour and Hastings lifeboat stations attended the event. A record amount of £2,620 was raised. Many thanks to all who generously donated items, the people who bought them and to everyone involved in making this a successful evening.
In 2016 the RNLI had 8,851 launches, rescuing 8,643 people. 431 lives were saved, an average of 23 people rescued every day.
Rye Harbour RNLI lifeboat station is actively seeking new volunteers and fundraisers.
