Paintings, photos and folk music celebrate Newenden

To celebrate the arts in Newenden, three villagers were commissioned to paint, photograph and write about the village. The results will be on show in the White Hart, Rye Road, Newenden from Wednesday December 4. The exhibition will open at 7pm with live music, mince pies and mulled wine in the pub.

Jillian Eldridge is well known for her beautiful paintings and has exhibited locally and nationally. She describes herself as an artist and conservationist. “My concern for the diminishing countryside and natural habitat influences my work. I split my time between meadow restoration and painting, and through doing so, my paintings become more about that landscape. I am engrossed in the life cycles of flowers, insects, birds, trees and their vital interconnectedness.”

Elizabeth Norris has been building up a portfolio of beautiful photos of the village and surrounding area for several years. The selection she has made for this exhibition is quite remarkable.

Anthony Dawson has written about the community for years and has used his local knowledge to create folk songs which he and members of his family will perform in the White Hart at 7:30pm on Wednesday 4 December.

There’s no charge for admission to the exhibition but all proceeds from the sale of calendars, prints and cards will be donated to the village hall fund.
