Another close game for Rye Bay

The Rye Bay clubhouse kitchen was open for business last Sunday thanks to Claire Warne. Bacon rolls, cookies and early morning coffee were much appreciated when Rye Bay under 8s entertained Hawkhurst under 8s at Harbour Road, writes Ali MacDonald

The morning didn't start very well with a heavy rain shower and myself, Darren Warne and Justin Cornell got soaking wet putting the goals up. After the weather cleared up a little, Hawkhurst started the game the better team and grabbed two early goals - but, as usual, this just settled Rye Bay and Oliver MacDonald broke free and smashed a shot right into the roof of the net: 2-1. Game on!

It was a very close game with both sides having good spells with the ball. MacDonald, man of the match George Buss and Theo Cornell all played really well! Then Evan Whiting grabbed Rye Bay's 2nd goal after some great work by the whole team. The first half finished 2-2.

The second half was very much like the first, with both teams playing skilfully and both having good chances to score. Then MacDonald popped up and netted his second of the game, making it 3-2 to Rye Bay!

The game then went a little quiet with both teams tackling well and Kevin Tucker making some great saves for Rye Bay. Hawkhurst then grabbed a third to bring the scores level and it looked like it would stay that way until Hawkhurst smashed home a free kick, the last real action of the game.

So although Rye Bay lost it was a really good game and the boys are showing great fight and always play to the bitter end. I would like to say a huge thank you for all the support despite the wet and cold weather and a massive well done to all the boys!
