All the sound we cannot hear

Visual Easter treats at Rye Creative Centre

All the sound we cannot hear
Tide Pools, Camber

Large local landmarks such as Dungeness, Denge Sound Mirrors and Camber Castle feature in an exhibition of watercolours and mixed media paintings at Rye Creative Centre over Easter.

I am Lenka Medlik, a local artist with a studio at the centre and have been drawn to the often eerie presence of these enormous edifices, which also include some London landmarks.

I am also a member of the Rye Harbour Writer’s group and find writing poetry about the structures facilitates my painting and vice versa; All the Sound We Cannot Hear is a poem responding to the other-worldliness of the Denge Sound Mirrors built in the 1920s, and then the threat of war.

In contrast, the mixed-media pictures portray vividly coloured land and townscapes, both local and overseas.

The exhibition is open Good Friday, April 7- Easter Sunday, April 9 10am - 4pm at Rye Creative Centre.
