The A259 was closed for several hours between Camber and Brookland during the evening of Tuesday into Wednesday 11-12 November after a lorry overturned. These dramatic photographs were taken by members of the Romney Marsh Coastguard Rescue Team who helped close the road and marshal traffic.

Overturned on A259

Station officer Sonny Spencer says he and colleagues were returning from training in Rye when they saw what had happened. "There was a chap standing by the side of the road with a lorry in the ditch. He had initially called Kent Police but was told as the lorry was off the road they wouldn't be attending."

He says they were soon called into assist. "Shortly after we stopped the heavy wreckers turned up and said they needed to close the road in order to recover the lorry, so we helped in closing the road."

The coastguard team stayed for three hours until Kent Police arrived at 1am.
